Welcome to EZwebdesign.com. If your a seasoned web designer, your probably at the wrong site :) Though you may find a couple of useful tidbits of information. If you need some tips or looking to start your own site, please stay and take a look around.

Designing a good "clean" looking easy to use website is not rocket science. Now I am in no way a web design guru. If you need a professional looking web site that only provides information about you or your business, you can do so easily and affordable by using sites like this one. There are lots of free resources available online and even buying templates is a decent low cost alternative to hiring a web design firm that will charge you hundreds, even thousands of dollars for a site. Take this site for example, does not look half bad. It's a free wordpress template that only requires a link back to the designer.

Paint Shop Pro Tutorials

I’ve been using Paint Shop Pro since version 3, probably close to 10 years now. Since Photoshop has never been in my budget and I’m not a graphic designer, I found Paint Shop Pro served my graphic needs.

Corel bought Jasc and Paint Shop Pro a few years back. I’m not sure that was a god thing. But they do offer a decent list of Paint Shop Pro tutorials for version 8, 9 and X.

If you do not own Paint Shop Pro, take a look at amazon, they usually offer good price.

Mozy Online Backup an Update

I have been using Mozy for a few days now and there’s not a lot to report except it does take a very long time to upload 37gb to the Mozy servers. I’ve been running the backup client on my Mac for 3 days and it says I have 4 more days to go. I suppose this is not a huge problem, after all it’s lots of data. And it’s nice to know that if my house blows up, catches fire or my hard drives crash I can still get to my files.

I also found a 10% off coupon code “NOVEMBER” so 2 years cost $94 or about the price of a 500gb external hard drive

I hope Mozy works out better than Omnidrive, I paid for that service last year and now they are out of business, no contacting their customers about closing down and who knows what happened to my data.

If you’re like me and backing up data due to a hard drive crash. You did not back up for over a year and want more than one solution to backing up data or priceless pictures and video, have a look at Crashplan. Mozy seems ok so far but I imagine that retrieving the data would be a slow process as well. With the software from Crashplan you can automatically back up your data to an external hard drive connected to another computer on your network or even a friend’s house. I started using Crashplan before Time Machine was released for the MAC. I actually back up the data to 2 separate drives connected to 2 other PC’s on my network. Crashplan works on all operating systems so my Mac backs up files onto my Windows PC.

Since I’m so paranoid about data loss I do use Time Machine as well to do backups to an external drive bay I’ve had for years. About once a week I boot up the drive bay (It’s kind of loud) and use Time Machine to make a back up.

What have we learned here (probably not much, hahaha) is that extremely paranoid about crashing hard drives. If you want your data safe, use more than one backup solution. Sure you have to shell out a little cash but if you ever had a drive crash and use an “engineer” to try an extract the lost data, you could end up paying $1000 or more. I think the cheapest quote I received for extracting data from a bad drive was $650 and there is no guarantee they can extract the data from a crashed drive. A service like Mozy, Crashplan and an external drive will cost you about $200 to start with a recurring fee for Mozy.

I almost forgot, it never hurts to back up photos and video to DVD’s for safe keeping too!

Dynamic Content Using AJAX

Here’s a nifty script for pulling in dynamic content into a DIV, http://www.dhtmlgoodies.com/index.html?whichScript=ajax-dynamic-content.  You can load external files into DIV’s on an existing page. This can make for easier content management and works as well as server side includes or php includes.
