Welcome my son Brandon. He will explain his initial thoughts on XSitePro and his custom design process.

Hi my name is Brandon.  At first I picked a design.  They have many choices of designs.  I pick a design that looks like a notepad I realized that it was kinda boring.  I picked a blank design.  The blank design was cool because you got to import a header a footer and a sitemap.  I added some html games that were fun.  For my header I did a spray paint logo using MS Paint.  The tools were very simple.  What was frustrating was that when you type on a page.  Its really hard to center it and write a paragraph properly. Overall it was very easy.

I have not used XsitePro myself except to assist Brandon in entering the ftp information so that he could upload his site up to our web server. XsitePro has a built in FTP client so he is now able to update the site himself with one click of a button.

So is XsitePro so easy a 10 year old can build a professional looking site?

I would say so far the answer is Yes if you use the build in templates.

One thing this tool fails to do is left justify websites who have their designs centered.

If you wanted to dabble in selling online you may want to check out Shopster.com. Shopster provides drop shipping services for anyone who wants to pay a monthly fee for their service. Currently they drop ship over 1,000,000 products. Shopster does everything but promote your store. You can sell products on ebay too!

Don’t expect to get rich overnight. Shopster will provide you a template and building the site is very easy. But in order to really be successful you will have to spend many hours tweaking keywords and finding ways to get your store noticed.

Shopster does offer a free 7 day trial.

But buyer beware, if your totally clueless about html you will need to pay someone to insert your company information into the templates. If you have a decent web editor like Dreamweaver you could edit the templates very easily.

If you buy price tapestry, magic parser is included or you can buy it separately at MagicParser.com. Magic Parser can parse data from CSV files, RSS feeds and even XML feeds. Or use it to display RSS feeds on your site, data from Amazon’s API or Ebay’s affiliate RSS feeds.

My first choice would be WordPress. It’s the most widely used blog platform and is very easy to use. Most shared hosts even offer free installation in their control panels. Usually installation is point and click if your host does offer WordPress. But even if your host does not, all you need to do is download the zip at WordPress.org file follow the directions in the readme file. The only tricky party for a newbie is setting up the mysql database. I suggest emailing your hosts support team to set up a database for you. I recently set up a site for a client using WordPress to power the site, the Stone Horse Inn. There are some great free plugins as well, like image galleries and thousands of free templates.

I am in the process of toying with Joomla. If your looking for a robust content management system and your low on funds then Joomla is theway to go. The learning curve is steeper than WordPress. Installation is as simple but once you login to the admin area you have many more options. Joomla has a number of plugins and some free templates are available.  On the right side of this page are some decent Joomla related links.
